Spins & Needles - New Release!
Our second release on Spins & Needles is out this Saturday! A Downtempo release by D-Mass - The Sound EP features three cuts of smooth lounge style beats.
Spins & Needles is an independent music label focused on the funkier side of things. Its aim is to promote new / undiscovered artists and build sustainable music scenes and creative communities.
D-Mass aka Dene Swan grew up in Bermuda playing Funkytown by Lipps Inc. on his Fischer-Price turntable. He would drag the needle across the wax, imitating his uncle Winslow(Bermuda’s first DJ). “I destroyed records that, if I had taken care of them, would give me a small fortune,” he says ruefully. Now Based in Ottawa, Canada Dene is a DJ/Producer whose style ranges from Hiphop to dance-floor anthems and funky house. Recent projects include a full album of hip hop beats titled Graduate, b-more and dancefloor tracks produced as part of the 3% production company, and a recent track on Caliber Sounds label with DJ Jason Skilz.
As a DJ, D-Mass has shared the stage with international superstars Grand Master Flash, KRS-1 and DJ Babu, as well as the U.K.’s Broken Beat champions: Bugz in the Attic.
This is D-Mass’ first full EP for Spins & Needles, his earlier production work on Spins (solo and collaborations) can be found on the label’s first release - Compilation 1 (https://www.stompy.com/Ep/514365) released March 2013.

Jason Skilz + Greg Records (OTT)
Jason Skilz is a long time House Head and DJ for over two decades. He is well known in the Jacking House scene with dozens of online mixes and guest appearances on CHFM to gigs at Fiasco in Glasgow and Miami label parties. Turning his attention to production recently, Jason has collaborations and releases on Coyote Cuts and Caliber Sounds already and has recently launched the Spins and Needles music label based on his long running arts / event production company of the same name.
DJ Greg Records is a cycling enthusiast / funk DJ and studio wiz kid. Holding down weekly DJ residencies in his native Ottawa, Greg teamed up with Jason Skilz after the two were introduced by their girlfriends at a party. Hitting off an immediate production partnership based on funky beats and love of House music, the pair have already got their First EP ready for release.
